There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.
— Opening Narration – Season 1
The Twilight Zone Mini-Thon will feature six specially selected classic episodes will be screened with brief discussion in between.
The twilight zone is the famous TV series created by Rod Serling. Serling personally penned an incredible 156 episodes in the 5 year run on CBS. Serling came out of the golden age of TV theater. He wanted to create an entertaining TV drama with depth of character and meaning. His use in The Twilight Zone of the supernatural was in many ways a stand in for revealing an underlying truth.
His eerie presence as the narrator, standing just off the action opened the curtains for the audience to enter the suspension of belief which the Twilight Zone continuously earned.
Part mystery, part supernatural journey, part morality tale, and usually with a twist ending, these works were well ahead of their time. It is said that everyone involved, the actors, the camera person, lighting, set design all gave it their all knowing they were involved in something very special. It was an incredibly creative atmosphere, and they all did so much with minimal resources, the sparing portrayal of powerful themes was a signature characteristic of the Twilight Zone phenomena.
Our evening will consist of 6 carefully chosen classic Twilight Zone Episodes.
The festivities will also include a Rod Serling impersonation contest. Entrants welcome.
The Greenkill Gallery and its projection system will lend the perfect atmosphere to bring these mysterious and deeply affecting episodes to life.
