About Spaghetti Eastern Music
Spaghetti Eastern Music is the solo project of Saugerties/NYC guitarist, keyboardist and singer Sal Cataldi. He marries electro blues, psychedelia and world beat-fired guitar instrumentals with ambient sound collages featuring the likes of American literary great Henry Miller and intimate DADGAD-tuned vocal ballads straight out of the Nick Drake/John Martyn playbook. The New York Times says Cataldi “has a beat unmistakably his own” while Time Out New York writes: “Cataldi’s largely instrumental, Eastern-influenced jams are infused with some delicate guitar work and hauntingly moody atmosphere.” Almanac Weekly’s John Burdick recently called him: “a unique voice… a surprising blend of exploratory fusion, electronica and indie song craft, from the Ennio Morricone overtones anticipated by his handle to currents of Krautrock, techno, modal folk and various world music styles. Hudson Valley One recently him “a whirling dervish of musical creation.”

Rick is also involved with the Woodstock-based Hudson Valley Soundpainting Ensemble, which has grown out of a series of workshops let by bassist Steve Rust. Current projects include the Electro-Acoustic duo ‘Rick and Marilyn’ performing cover tunes and original songs by Marilyn Miller, with Hudson-based Slink Moss and the ‘Magic Stones’, and the improvisational duo ‘The Warren-Ver Straeten Half Quartet’ and his new collaborations with Saugerties’ guitarist Sal Cataldi (aka Spaghetti Eastern Music).
